Wedding DJ in Minneapolis & Minnesota
Professional DJ for 5-hour bookings — custom playlist, smooth transitions, real dance floor management. Three packages depending on whether you need just a DJ or full sound + lights production.
A great wedding DJ in Minneapolis is the difference between a reception people remember and one they politely tell you was nice. We work with professional DJs across Minnesota — people who have played out before, not hobbyists with a Spotify Premium account. Three 5-hour packages below, sized to whether your venue already has sound or you need the full rig.
DJ Service Packages
All packages include a 5-hour booking window. Add hourly rate for longer events.
DJ Only
5 hours · venue with house PA
For venues that already have a sound system (Sheraton, A'bulae, Day Block, etc.) — DJ brings only the controller.
DJ + Sound
5 hours · most weddings
Most common booking. DJ brings the full rig — speakers, mixer, mics. Works in any venue with or without house PA.
DJ + Sound + Lights
5 hours · full production
Adds dance floor lighting on top of the DJ + Sound bundle. Visible energy from the moment guests walk in.
Note: Each event gets a custom playlist and pre-event consultation (call or messages — your choice). We match the DJ to your event style — wedding reception, corporate party, private celebration.

What a DJ Actually Does on Your Wedding Day
Hiring a DJ is hiring two things — the equipment to fill the room, and the judgment to read it. The equipment side is straightforward: pro speakers, a mixer, a wireless mic, a controller. The judgment side is what separates a $400 hobbyist from a working pro: knowing when the floor is filling, when it's about to die, and when to drop the song that pulls everyone back.
Genre versatility for mixed crowds
Most weddings are mixed-generation crowds — grandparents, parents, friends, kids — each with different floor-fillers. Our DJs read the room across genres: classic Motown for the older crowd at 7 PM, current pop and hip-hop when the under-30s take the floor at 9 PM, late-night house and throwback bangers for the closing set. Cultural traditions slot in cleanly — Ukrainian, Polish, Italian, Indian, Latin — we've programmed all of them. Send us your must-play list and we'll build the arc around it.
Custom playlist, real consultation
Every booking includes a pre-event consultation — a 20-minute call or a back-and-forth in messages, your choice. We collect must-play songs, do-not-play songs, the arc of the night (when does dancing start, when does it end, are there cultural traditions to slot in), and the energy you want at each stage. The DJ shows up with that playlist already built — not improvising on the night.
Smooth transitions: ceremony → cocktail → dinner → dance
A wedding has four energy phases and they each need different music. The transitions between them are where amateurs lose the room — silence during the toast handoff, a cocktail-hour playlist still running 20 minutes into dinner, jarring jump from background music to dance set. Our DJs program these transitions deliberately.
Where we've worked
We've run DJ-driven events across the Twin Cities and out into greater Minnesota — wedding receptions at Sheraton Bloomington, A'bulae, Day Block Event Center, Hope Glen Farm. Corporate events at the Intercontinental St. Paul. Private parties at Stone Lion Winery and the MN Landscape Arboretum. Plus weddings at lakes (Spring Park, Mora, Hayward) and as far south as Faribault and Albert Lea. Every venue has its quirks — ballrooms with weird low-end resonance, barns with one circuit feeding the entire reception, outdoor tents with no power. We tune the rig and the set to the room you actually have.
A DJ on a Bluetooth speaker with a Spotify playlist is not the same product. We're not them.
Or — Rent a Controller, Bring Your Own DJ
If you have a DJ booked who needs gear, or you want to DJ your own event, we rent two professional standalone-capable controllers. No $400 minimum on standalone controller rentals.
Pioneer DDJ-800
$2004-deck industry-standard controller. Set up for Rekordbox out of the box. Your DJ brings their own laptop with their music library.
AlphaTheta XDJ-AZ
$4004-channel standalone, no laptop required. Load music onto a USB stick, plug in, and play. What working pros are migrating to.

Frequently Asked Questions
Both options exist. We can supply a professional DJ (DJ services from $1,200, 5 hours) or rent you a controller and you supply your own DJ. We don't force a bundle.
Our DJ packages run from $1,200 (DJ only, for venues with house PA) to $1,600 (DJ + Sound + Lights), all 5 hours. Send us the date, venue, and guest count and we'll reply within the hour.
The DDJ-800 needs a laptop running Rekordbox — it's set up for Pioneer's software out of the box, and your DJ brings their own laptop and music library. The XDJ-AZ is fully standalone (4 channels, USB only, no laptop), which is what most working pros are migrating to.
Yes. Controller rentals don't require the $400 minimum that applies to sound rentals. If your venue has a house PA you can patch into, the controller alone is fine. If not, we can pair the controller with one of our sound packages.
Each DJ package is built around a 5-hour booking window. For longer events, we add an hourly rate — send us your timeline and we'll quote it.
That's a conversation we have before the event. Default is yes, within your do-not-play list. If you want a tight playlist with no requests, we can do that too. Worth deciding before the event so the DJ has the right answer when Aunt Linda walks up at 9:45.
