A 12" Speaker on a Stick is Not a Sound System
There are two kinds of speaker rentals in Minneapolis. The first is a pair of 12" speakers on stands plugged into a phone — fine for a backyard birthday with 30 people, useless for a 200-guest reception. The second is a tuned rig: speakers sized to the room, subwoofers that actually move air, cables run so nobody trips, a sound check before guests walk in. We're built for the second kind.

What "right rig for the room" actually means
A 50-guest cabin reception up north is not the same job as a 250-guest hotel ballroom in Bloomington. Same gear, wrong room — it falls apart. Same gear, right room — nobody notices the speakers, which is the goal.
For 30 people in a backyard, two speakers and a mic is the right call — cheaper and simpler. Past 80 guests with dancing, the math flips. The room absorbs sound, the dance set demands real bass, and one mic gain stage doesn't cover toasts plus DJ playback.
Where we've worked
Minnesota events are not one job. A summer wedding at a lakeside cabin has different power and noise constraints than a December corporate gala at a downtown hotel. Outdoor receptions in May or September often run without venue power — we bring a Champion 4,500W dual-fuel generator (gas or propane) for tents, docks, and parks. Winter venues are typically over-built for sound, where tuning matters more than wattage. The rig has to flex.
If you want a vendor that says "yeah, we do speakers, $300 flat, you pick up" — that's fine, there are several. We're not them.

For a 150-guest reception with dancing, the typical rig is two 15" powered speakers (EV EKX-15P or JBL SRX835P 3-way) plus two 18" subwoofers (EV EKX-18SP or ETX-18SP). The subwoofers are not optional if there's a dance set — without them, the bass that drives a dance floor is missing.
If there's a dance set, yes. A pair of 15" speakers can move a room conversationally, but the 35–80Hz range that drives a dance floor only comes from an 18" subwoofer. Ceremony-only or dinner-only events skip the subwoofer. Receptions with dancing don't.
We deliver, set up, sound-check, and pick up. Free within 20 miles of the Twin Cities; statewide and Wisconsin service for events beyond the metro with a per-mile travel fee. We don't offer self-pickup — an 18" sub weighs 70–100 lbs, and the rig needs gain staging that's not plug-and-go.
For most weddings and parties we cover the rig from our own inventory — pro main speakers and 18" subwoofers across multiple models. For festival-size events (500+) we coordinate with partner companies for additional subs and line array. We tell you that upfront when you send the details, not after the deposit.
